Dear Friends of Photo en Touraine,
Today PHOTO EN TOURAINE is a recognized and established tool of cultural outreach. The association has been creating events since 2002. Its main manifestation remains the biennale, PHOTOFOLIES EN TOURAINE, which in 2010 has presented its exhibitions from September 17 to November 1st.
Through exhibits and activities that facilitate direct exchanges, our vocation is to create or strengthen the links between photographers of all horizons and an audience seeking visual discoveries. We federate in a single event more than sixty unusual sites of exhibitions and animations in the Loire Valley Region.
In 2008 we introduced the concept of an featured country. For our 4th biennale we chose the Netherlands and welcomed seven renowned Dutch photographers at the Loches Royal Chateau. The response from the monument directors, photographers, photography lovers and the public at large was very enthusiastic. The success of this initiative prompted us to make it a central part of our festival.
German contemporary photography been widely appreciated and so the elected country for our 5th biennale in 2010 was Germany.
In addition, the city of Blois has hosted our preview exhibition. This historical city is twinned with the German city of Weimar in the federal state of Thuringe. The ties that unite these two regions have serve as an enriching exchange.
For this fifth biennale, nine German photographers, or photographers working in Germany, were selected with the assistance of the director of the French Cultural Bureau and several gallery owners in Thuringe. Their work was exhibited in one of Loire Valley's prestigious monuments The Logis Royal of Loches, the medieval capital of South Touraine.
The avant-premier of the biennale, with press conference and cocktail, took place in August at the Cloister of the Regional council in Blois. After three weeks, the art work of the German photographers was transferred to Loches.
That exhibition ran from the beginning of September until the 18th of October with another opening cocktail and press conference on September 4th.
We offered guided visits and animations for the duration of this exhibit, with another special event for the "Weekend de la Photo", October 9,10 and 11.
For more information please contact us and visit the biennale website regularly.
Looking forward to seeing you soon in Touraine,
Sandra Shepard
